The scientists who cast much doubt on the claim of a final theory were portrayed as out of touch with the practice of physics and were not thought to be daring enough to embrace the new ideas that are being promoted. This was realised by David Bohm who possessed a rare combination of philosophical interests and technical knowledge in the field of physics. His conviction was that the best way to criticise Copenhagen Interpretation was to develop a new interpretation. Bohm proposed his own interpretation and applied it in manifold ways.

This alternative interpretation was proposed by Bohm hence Bohmian Mechanics — BM in in two articles published in the Physics Review. Throughout the years Bohm developed and expanded the alternative interpretation on his own and with the aid of collaborators, especially with Basil Joseph Hiley.

He remains within the conventional way of doing physics. BM introduces fundamental changes in the physical conception of matter and its interactions in space and time.

An individual material system consists of a localised particle and a physical field. The field is accompanied by the particle and both are connected by means of a quantum potential. The quantum potential has innovative features like nonlocality and form dependence effect. These novel features exhibit the relational and holistic nature of Bohmian Mechanics.

It is liberated from many of the conceptual problems plaguing the foundations of quantum mechanics. Bohmian Mechanics is distinctly deterministic and yet remains probabilistic. The present paper is an investigation in the search for causal quantum ontology. BM is a genuinely causal explanatory interpretation and follows a classical ontology in having novel features.

BM believes that it provides a genuine understanding of quantum phenomena and causal connections. I shall describe this interpretation in more detail in what is being claimed on behalf of it and then examine it to see whether it meets the expectations it promised.

BM mirrors the CM formalism in its wave mechanics form, but departs from it in significant respects. It comes up with a consistent account of individuation of physical systems as a particle and a field based on the Einsteinian critique of CM that it is descriptively incomplete.

A quantum potential mediates between them and guides the particle. The particle is a passive partner in the quantum or microscopic domain because it has no reciprocal action on the field. This displacement of leadership does not create a disjunction between physical reality as classical and as quantum domain.

The individuation of a particle and its objectively observable properties of the theory provide a microstructure for reality. So the physical reality we encounter in the quantum domain is not at all a fog or an illusion but a causally connected reality in itself. The elimination of the problem of the collapse of the wavefunction, strengthened the deterministic and the causal nature of the theory.

However, BM goes deeper than the uncertainty relations and derives more thorough and, as its proponents claim, a deeper and a better formula. With these brief remarks, let us investigate Bohmian mechanics. It is intrinsic because it can be measured without alteration and it is independent of the wavefunction.

An individual physical system of matter is constituted by a quantum field propagating in space and time along with a particle. The basic reality is thus not the wavefunction but a particle.
